  • Dr. Greg Matthews

I'm Dr. Greg Matthews. Originally from Pemberville, Ohio, I graduated from Eastwood High School in 1968. I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University in 1975.

After graduation, I started a mixed practice in Bowling Green, Ohio, and practiced there for 9 years. The next year was spent working at Select Embryos, Inc., in Plain City, Ohio, doing Embryo Transfer work on cattle. In 1986, I purchased Dr. Russell Miller's veterinary practice in Republic, Ohio and a year later I opened the Fremont office in the Potter Village Shopping Center. In 2009, we moved into our new facility just north of Fremont at 2180 Dickinson St.

I very much enjoy private practice and working with both large and small animals. I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, the International Embryo Transfer Society and the Society For Theriogenology and regularly attend continuing education meetings.

  • Dr. Julie Matthews

Hi! I am Dr. Julie Matthews and I started working full time as a veterinarian at our clinic in July 2009. Growing up I spent many years working at the clinic assisting in the office.

I graduated from Tiffin Calvert High School in 1998 and earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from The Ohio State University in 2002. I spent a year working as an Admissions Counselor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Soon I realized I really wanted to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine. I went back to college and earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in June of 2009.

I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine, but have a particular interest in dermatology and pain management. I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association.

In my free time, I enjoy watching sports, particularly Ohio State.  I love to travel, enjoy working out, and spending time with my pets.  I currently have a Labrador Retriever named Beau, a German Shepherd named Maxim, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Logan.

    Marilyn Matthews

    Office Manager
I am Marilyn Matthews and I have been actively involved with all aspects of our veterinary practice since my husband, Dr. Greg Matthews, and I opened our first office in Bowling Green, Ohio, in 1975. We have 2 daughters. Jennifer is married to Heath, and they have 2 children - Alex & Anna, and live in Ashland, Ohio. Julie is a veterinarian and we are happy to have had her working with us since 2009.

We've had a great bunch of pets over the years and currently we have a Westie, Yorkie, and a Shih Tzu mix.  And, of course, our 2 resident office cats, Ricky and Desi.

Originally from Milford Center, Ohio, I graduated from Fairbanks High School and obtained my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Capital University in 1973.

I really enjoy working in the veterinary field and getting to work with animals and their owners every day.

  • Lesa Smith

Hi, I'm Lesa Smith and I have been a veterinary technician since 1999. I graduated from Port Clinton High School in 1988 and from Stautzenberger College in 1999. I started working at Countryside Veterinary Clinic in 2004.

I am married with 2 sons and live in Oak Harbor. Our family would not be complete without a few pets. Right now we have an English Mastiff, and two Pit mixes that came from the Ottawa County Humane Society, three horses, chickens, ducks, goats and a few barn cats. In my spare time, I enjoy attending my boys' sporting events and trail riding.

  • Marla Sidell

    Veterinary Assistant
Hi! I'm Marla Sidell. I've worked with my Countryside family since 2000.  I assist with just about every part of the clinic from surgeries and answering the phone to handing out hugs to bereaved pet parents.  I love what I do and enjoy every moment of it.  Every day leads to new things because I never stop learning.

I live in Gibsonburg with my family and I am a breast cancer survivor!

We showed draft horses for many years but have since found much enjoyment in riding our Tennessee Walking horses.  When I'm not busy spending time with my wonderful extended family, I also love training dogs. I have two rescue dogs.  Morgan is a pit and Murphy is a mixed breed.  They love to hike and camp with us.  On our little farm we also have cats, chickens, and ducks.  All of this keeps me very busy when I'm not at Countryside.

  • Marianne Webb

Hello! My name is Marianne Webb and I am thrilled to be a part of the staff at Countryside Veterinary Clinic.  Although my background is in music, I have always loved being around animals of all shapes and sizes.  I have five fur faces in my home at the moment.  Dogs Skippy, Miles and Pepper and cats Angel and Blair.  My husband calls me "Mommy Doolittle" because they follow me a round the house like a parade, and of course because I "talk to the animals".  In addition to my husband of 20 plus years, I also have a wonderful blended family of 6 children  and two beautiful granddaughters with one on the way!  A lot of people ask me what took me from singing in bands and traveling the country to working in a veterinary clinic in Fremont.  I simply answer "It was a long and winding road and I wouldn't change a step!'

    Jen Balduf

Hi! I am Jen Balduf, a lifelong resident of Oak Harbor and a 1989 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

After spending 10 yrs in sales at a local wholesale company I decided it was time for a change.  I joined the staff of Countryside in April 2017 and never looked back.

I also work at the Humane Society of Ottawa County - a totally different aspect of helping people care for pets.  I feel so lucky to have two jobs where I get to work with all kinds of different animals.

I'm currently sharing a home with two other people and three handsome kitties.  Victor, Riley and Jackson!
